Restrictor Plate Tracks
From Gregg Leary
Category:NASCAR -> Sprint Cup
WHY?
Bill Elliott set NASCAR’s all-time qualifying record of 212.8 MPH (Spring 1987 race at Talladega)…20 Years Ago!
During that same (Talladega Spring 1987) race Bobby Allison crashed and nearly went into the stands…tearing down yards of catch fence. NASCAR mandated restrictor plates the next season at Daytona and Talladega…to keep cars under 200 MPH…and out of the grandstands
Daytona…since 1988
Talladega…since 1988
New Hampshire (September 2000 ONLY ONE RACE after the deaths of Adam Petty and Kenny Irwin)
