1982…”Bumpergate”…Joe Gazaway told Allison they had to move their rear bumper ¼” before Happy Hour Practice…Bobby missed practice so they popriveted the bumper on…Cale and Bobby tangled and Bobby lost his bumper and won the 500…Allison claims the car ran faster WITH the bumper ON.
The 1983 Championship went down to the last race at Riverside…Bobby Allison had a flat and went a lap down…and his car started missing…DW tangled with Tim Richmond…Bobby won the championship but found the “miss” was due to a 10 pound bag of sugar in the gas tank
