Bill Elliott Trivia
By Gregg Leary
Category:NASCAR -> Sprint Cup
Your autobiography, “Bill Elliott: “Awesome Bill from Dawsonville” says a lot about you…but many may not realize that your hometown, “Dawsonville” played a huge part in the early years of Stock Car racing…

Dawsonville was called “the bootlegging capital of the South.” And tiny Dawsonville produced six Daytona winners…five of them on the old Beach/Road Course before NASCAR was formed: Lloyd Seay, Roy Hall, Gober Sosebee, Bernard Long and Carleen Rouse. The first NASCAR Champion owner, Raymond Parks was from Dawson County.  You continued Dawsonville’s fame by winning the first Winston Million as well as two Daytona 500’s and two Pepsi 400’s and the 1988 Cup Championship.

“As far as I’m concerned, BILL ELLIOTT is just another way of saying FAST.” Car Owner, Harry Melling

In 1985 Elliott had 11 Wins, 11 Poles and won the Winston Million. He won’t be needing to update a resume to prove his greatness. It may have done as much as the 1979 Daytona 500 Fight to put NASCAR on the map. It put Bill on the cover of Sports Illlustrated. (Won Daytona, Talladega, Darlington)

1988 Cup Champion
Three time Runner-Up (1985, 1987, 1992)
Second to Alan Kulwicki in what was then the closest points finish in Cup History…1992
