Some of this week’s storylines:
NASCAR Sprint Cup Series – The Sprint Cup series gets back to restrictor plate racing on the high banks of Daytona International Speedway. Just 9 races remain before the Chase for the Sprint Cup begins, and the battle for the cutoff spot of who’s in, and who’s out is tight.
IndyCar Series – a stretch of six consecutive ovals comes to a close… now the series returns to road and street courses for the first time since Long beach in April… Scott Dixon aims to become the most successful driver in IndyCar Series history this weekend at Watkins Glen, a track he’s won at three times. Last week Dixon tied Sam Hornish Jr.’s record of 19 career series wins. Meanwhile, a rare double DNF by Penske racing has both Helio Castroneves and Ryan Briscoe playing catch-up in the points… where four different drivers have occupied the top spot through eight races this season. Who will play it conservative, and who will push the edge?
Moto GP World Championship - The Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca is the first of two Moto GP stops in the US this season and is the second of four GPs in a five week period. Valentino Rossi is coming off of back to back wins and having won at Laguna before, the doctor looks to be hitting his stride. Meanwhile, his closest rival, and teammate, Jorge Lorenzo, has never completed a race at Laguna having crashed out on the first lap on his debut at the Californian track last year. The third man in the championship chase, Casey Stoner, could be a major thorn in Rossi’s side though. Stoner won at Laguna in 2007 and finished second there in 2008. TSR will have complete race coverage and reaction from round 8 of the championship this weekend.
Rolex Sports Car Series - The Sports cars return to Daytona. Porsche hasn’t won in the Daytona Prototype class since the season opening 24 hour race at Daytona. But, the engine manufacturer gets a rev increase that may see them being the ones to beat. Meanwhile, the defending race winners, and current point leaders from Chip Ganassi Racing from Felix Sabates are looking for redemption after losing the Rolex 24 to Porsche in the races waning moments. NASCAR regulars Kyle Busch and Scott Speed will join forces and run a 2nd car for Ganassi… could they be a spoiler? TSR will have full race coverage and reaction from Daytona.
Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship - The series hits the halfway point of the season. Ivan Tedesco took the 450 wins last weekend, his first since moving into the premier class in 2006. Both Tedesco and Andrew Short have closed the gap to point leader... but can they catch Chad Reed? TSR will have the action from RedBud in Michigan.
NASCAR Nationwide Series – The Nationwide Series is on the high banks of Daytona. Double file restarts will be in effect for the series for the first time.
