A1GP in Malaysia… The 2008-09 A1GP World Cup of Motorsport takes to Malaysia’s Sepang International Circuit this weekend for round three of the season. To date, four different nations have taken victory in the four races so far. And, the history books show that every A1GP champion has won the Malaysian Feature race in the year he was crowned.
American Marco Andretti will be looking to improve upon his series debut performance from two weeks ago in China.
Meanwhile, A1 Team Malaysia holds heads to its home track leading the point standings after two rounds. With a five point lead over A1 Team Ireland, (28-23), the Malaysian squad is no doubt hoping to capitalize on its momentum and do something it has yet to achieve in A1GP – score a home podium.
Switzerland’s Neel Jani has ruled the roost at Sepang having scored all five of his nation’s podium finishes including three victories on the track.
History in the making… Last week in Homestead Florida, NASCAR Sprint Cup driver Jimmie Johnson joined some very elite company clinching his 3rd Series title, and 3rd consecutively. So, what’s Jimmie got that everybody else doesn’t? Crew chief Chad Knaus for one thing… The SPEED Report will take a look at Jimmie and Chad’s accomplishments, and how they have approached the Chase each year to be so successful.
And the verdict is… We’re not talking Helio… we’re talking Dale! It was the most anticipated debut of the 2008 season, and it got off with a bang… so what went right, what went wrong, and what lies in store for Dale Earnhardt Jr and his #88 Hendrick Motorsports team? The SPEED Report spoke with all the major players at the operation on the topic… Dale Jr, Rick Hendrick, Jimmie Johnson, Chad Knaus, Jeff Gordon, and Tony Eury Jr. Their answers… you’ll want to hear.
NASCAR News and Notes… Sure the season just wrapped up, but behind the scenes it’s been one busy week. The SPEED Report catches up NASCAR’s Rookie class of 2008 and will map out who’s headed where plus what’s going down for the 2009 season.
One cool thank you… How did Sebastien Loeb celebrate becoming the first 5-time WRC Champion in history? Loeb’s sponsor Red Bull placed the Frenchmen in one if it’s Formula one cars and let him loose as a reward. The SPEED Report gets up close and personal as Loeb prepared for and tackled the shakedown of an F1 car for the first time.
All that plus… after a 12 year run, NHRA Funny Car stalwart Gary Scelzi steps away from the car… America’s youth takes over in USAC, and a grass roots success story both on and off the track for SPEED World Challenge racer James Sofronas. From sports car rule changes by the ACO to results in Baja… we got it.
