TRUCKS: SPEED Reporter Back Home Again in Indiana

“He said they might need someone and it all came together,” Alexander recalled. “I did pit road in 2001, ‘02 and ‘03. I moved to turn two in ‘04, ‘05 and ‘06.”

Before going to work for MRN in 2000, Alexander covered sports for local television stations in Evansville, Ind., and Owensboro, Ky., providing him the opportunity to cover NASCAR Nationwide Series and Truck Series races at O’Reilly Raceway Park.

“When I was doing local sports in Evansville, we were right across the river from Owensboro, and whether you liked racing or not, you covered it because of all of the successful drivers from there,” Alexander said. “We had Darrell and Michael Waltrip, the Green brothers and Jeremy Mayfield. Darrell was still racing at the time and the others were just coming up.”

The Truck Series date at O’Reilly Raceway Park is Alexander’s favorite night of the season because his wife and children tag along in his travels to Indianapolis.

“I always take advantage of this weekend and take my family to see my parents and my sister and her family,” Alexander, who also was a track announcer at Tri-State Speedway north of Evansville, explained. “I don't think I have ever been to a race at
IMS or ORP without my Dad. He spotted for me when I was working the 500 for IMS radio. We have always enjoyed that together. The Indy races are very special to me.”

Now at SPEED, Alexander still has spotters who assist his reporting on pit road and he has grown very comfortable with his fellow broadcasting crew.

“I really like our crew and they have made it fun from day one,” he said. “I love the diverse garage in the Truck Series. There are so many good young drivers mixed in with the veterans. Plus, the garage is so open and friendly and that makes my job all the more enjoyable. Getting to do what I love in front of my hometown crowd and family makes it that much better.”

SPEED, now in nearly 78 million homes in North America, is the exclusive home of the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race, Gatorade Duel at Daytona, NASCAR Sprint Pit Crew Challenge and the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. The only network delivering live, at-track programming all season long, SPEED offers the definitive pre- and post-race NASCAR Sprint Cup Series programs – NASCAR RaceDay and NASCAR Victory Lane, as well as other popular NASCAR programs including Trackside Live, Tradin’ Paint, NASCAR Performance, NASCAR Live!, This Week in NASCAR, NCTS Setup, Go or Go Home and The Chase is On.
