Tom: help me please. I have been a NASCAR fan for almost 20 years now, but what I’m witnessing with this new car of tomorrow is terrible viewing for a fan. You have one team (Gibbs) who has figured it out, and whoever is leading stays leading. I see no racing, no fun, just like watching a bunch of cars go in circles. The car is to aero dependent and it sucks to watch. What can we do Tom? — Stephen Clark

Stephen: Good question. NASCAR has said they will not make any aerodynamic changes to the car this year. But I agree, it is way too aero dependent. And that’s not a good thing. That said, NASCAR has gotten the safety aspects correct, which is the most important part. Now they have to figure out a way to make it race better. Hopefully that will come next season.

Clint Bowyer needs to thank Denny Hamlin and Kyle Busch for that win. Hamlin needs to be docked points for blatant cheating. Let’s hope NASCAR hits him in the points and pocketbook for that one. I lost a little respect for Hamlin on this one. He knew he had a flat and should have pitted. He stayed on the track hoping the tire would come apart. When it didn't he stopped just long enough to get the caution then started right back up again. Unless you were blind this was by design to allow for a re-start so Busch would have a chance since Junior had a lead and was driving away. As for Kyle Busch whining about someone in his face, well he's just a hypocrite. He likes to dish it out but can't take it. He sure got into Steven Wallace's face on Friday night but he sure don't like it when someone gets into his. — Randy, Glendora, Calif.

Yep, Hamlin’s decision to cause a caution stunk. It was poor sportsmanship at its worst. I, too, was very disappointed to see him do that.
As for Busch, there are plenty of drivers who like to dish it out, but can’t take it.

When is NASCAR going to make drivers get off the track when it is obvious their car is broke? The black flag is ignored for several laps till NASCAR threatens to stop scoring. They need a new flag that means pit now or scoring stops now and there is a big penalty. Denny Hamlin showed why this is necessary at Richmond. Thanks. — Tim Borre

Tim: That might be one way to solve the problem. As I noted elsewhere, there’s no excuse for what Hamlin did.

The focus on the Richmond race has been on Kyle Busch wrecking Earnhardt. It should be on Denny Hamlin intentionally stopping on the track to bring out a caution to allow Busch to catch up to Earnhardt. This is equal to fixing a ball game or point shaving in other sports. Joe Gibbs Racing should be fined and points taken away from both teams. It strikes at the integrity of the sport and should not be allowed! — Earl Angel

Earl: Thanks for the comment. You are far from alone in that sentiment. Lots of race fans are upset at what happened at Richmond, and with good reason. NASCAR needs to act to make sure that sort of thing never happens again.

Like Barney Fife would say, “We got to nip this in the bud.” NASCAR needs to penalize Denny Hamlin and Joe Gibbs Racing 100 points for the intentional caution that changed the race results. He did it to give Busch a chance to win. If NASCAR lets this go, every multi-car team can use their last place car to close up the field. This was so obvious that even NASCAR has got to take action. — Tim & Von Rickenbaugh

Tim & Von: Yes, I think NASCAR would be wise to put rules in place to keep this from happening again.
