Nobody embodies that spirit more than Knaus, the mastermind of the No 48 team and one of the sport’s top crew chiefs ever.
Asked if his team planned to go for four championships in a row, he said, “Yeah, we want four, why not? That's why we're here. We think with the team that we've got, the resources that we've got with Hendrick Motorsports and team Chevrolet behind us, we can definitely go and bid for four championships in a row. Why wouldn't we? Give me a reason why not to. I think that's the mentality we've got to have. We're very fortunate to have a group of people at Hendrick Motorsports that all they want to do is win races. It's difficult for people to understand we don't have a lot of nine-to-fivers. We don't have people like that. We have people that try to win races and try to win championships. That's what we want to do.”
It’s not only what they want to do, it’s what they have done.
Three NASCAR Sprint Cup Championships in a row is huge.
It’s historic.
And this isn’t the end, by any means.
Johnson and Edwards are going to keep this battle raging, and I’m sure Kyle Busch, Greg Biffle and a few other racers will be in the mix, too.
So whether or not people fully appreciate what they witnessed Sunday night at Homestead, the No. 48 team made history. And they’re a long
way from being done yet.
