WINNING: The movie that hooked Paul Newman on racing. While the storyline is cheesy at best, the final segment from the 1968 Indy 500 is worth the price of a rental alone.

TRAVIS PASTRANA: 199 LIVES: A very compelling documentary about the life of the most famous X Gamer/motorcyclist. A tale of a dysfunctional family and a kid driven to night-time panic attacks is a strange counter-point to the amazing tricks Pastrana is known for on two wheels. He’s now racing in American rally cars for Subaru, which would seem safer, but the film also includes an amazing crash where Pastrana flips his rally car over and over and over- only to break into laughter when it stopped tumbling. A fascinating psychological film.

DALE: First of all, if you own the ESPN movie “3,” I urge you grab it now and take it to your nearest trash can. Throw it in, then step away slowly. As odious and offensive as that movie was, the documentary DALE is superb. It includes a look at the many complex sides of the man who loved to be called the Intimidator. Great stuff.

SUPER SPEEDWAY: The first IMAX film about racing, this one is the ultimate ‘show off’ film for your massive HDTV and surround-sound system. How well made is this film? It has a great storyline about the career of Mario Andretti, but the racing footage is used in nearly every high-end video store in the country to show off how amazing a film can look and sound. Turn it up!
