On the Lap 129 restart, Earnhardt, Gordon, Busch and Johnson freight-trained Said to take the lead, with Hamlin fifth. Said fell to eighth. Two laps later, last year’s winner McMurray got tapped by Vickers and spun wildly down the end of the frontstretch, but he, too, avoided the walls.
Now the top 10 as the track went green on Lap 134 was Earnhardt, Gordon, Busch, Johnson, Hamlin, Harvick, Martin, Kahne, Edwards and Robby Gordon. It appeared at this point the battle would come down to Hendrick Chevys vs. JGR Toyotas.
Gordon then went to the point as Busch and Johnson made contact and nearly wrecked each other behind him and Earnhardt fell to seventh. Then, on Lap 136, Newman and Hamlin crashed, as the No. 11 Toyota got turned by Martin Truex Jr. at the exit of Turn 4.
On Lap 138, Johnson pitted because his right-front fender was damaged by the contact with Busch.
When the green came out on Lap 140, the order was Gordon, Busch, Martin, Kahne, Kenseth, Harvick, Clint Bowyer, Carl Edwards, Menard and Earnhardt. Johnson restarted 27th.
Then came another wreck, this one starting when Ragan hit Yeley on the trioval, with Mears and Burton behind them going into the outside wall to bring out Caution No. 8 on Lap 141. Gordon was out front ahead of Busch, Martin, Kahne, Menard and Earnhardt.
The track went green again on Lap 144, and Kahne’s car began smoking with a tire rub. Gordon held the lead, with Earnhardt moving to third behind Busch.
Boris Said then hit Joe Nemechek and spun in the trioval to bring out the caution on Lap 151. When the green came out on Lap 153, Gordon led Busch,
Busch went low to take the lead on Lap 156, and the following lap the fielded got wadded up on the backstretch, as Blaney turned left into Johnson and the wreck was on, taking Hamlin, Yeley, Menard, and Reutimann out of contention.
Now the top 10 was Kyle Busch, Gordon, Edwards, Kenseth, Kurt Busch, Ragan, Kahne, Waltrip, Martin and Bowyer. The caution set up the sixth green-white-checkered flag finish of the Sprint Cup season.
On the restart, Edwards spun out Gordon, but the track stayed green. Then, on the last lap, there was another huge wreck, which began when Sam Hornish Jr. got hit and went into Waltrip, bringing out the yellow and handing the victory to Busch.
