Solis Sweeps Red Bull Rookies Doubleheader
Written by: Chris Martin
Monterey, CA

Gillim pounced on Mercado as they exited the race's final corner and just out-dragged the Argentina native to the flag by 0.103 seconds. The finish was Gillim's third podium of the season and the best yet for the cousin of the Hayden brothers.

Asked how he found the speed to push Solis and Mercado today, Gillim explained, "I had more drive today. Yesterday I just had to stay up and get points but today I wanted to put it all out there and try and get a win. Leandro and Benny were riding a great race and going very fast and I was just happy to keep up with them. I'm really happy with my result and hopefully I can be on top of the box at Mid-Ohio.

Speaking about the final corner, he added, "Going into the corkscrew he got a little bit of a lead on me but a lapper got in front of him and he had to slow down. We were right there in the last corner. I guess he
just got a little anxious and overshot the corner and spun up a little bit and almost ran off the track. I was holding back so I could get a drive out of there. It was a really great race and I got him at the line by a couple feet."

Third-place finisher Mercado commented, "The race was real, real hard. I was pushing hard to keep in the fight for first place. On the last lap I made a couple mistakes, which allowed Benny to open up the gap. On the last corner I didn't get a good drive and spun a little bit and Hayden got me. But I'm very happy to be on the podium and earn more points in the championship."

Puerta out-dueled Joey Pascarella for fourth some 13 seconds off the win.

Austin Dehaven scored a lonely sixth while Jacob Gagne came out on top of a close battle for seventh with Emerson Connor. Bryce Prince and Jesse Stevens rounded out the top ten.
