Riding a new chassis at this race, Roberts never settled as track temperature rose and he struggled to ninth place.

After a two-week break, the championship battle resumes at Estoril for the Portuguese Grand Prix.

250cc

Japanese rider Hiroshi Aoyama scored an emotional victory in his home race in the 250cc Grand Prix at Motegi. It was Aoyama's second victory
of the season after an entertaining battle with Alex de Angelis who was second, 1.3sec behind.

By finishing in third place, Spaniard Jorge Lorenzo continues to control the world championship points with 265 points, now 27 ahead of Andrea Dovizioso who finished fourth in the 23-lap race.

125cc

Flying Finn Mika Kallio won the 125cc race at Motegi, defeating newly-crowned world champion Alvaro Bautista in the process. The pair battled until three corners from the finish when Kallio grabbed the lead. Spaniard Julian Simon came home third, holding off Mattia Pasini. with Lukas Pesek and Hector Faubel completing the top six.
