Reed crashed in the main event last Saturday night and worked his way into second place with an inspiring ride. The finished helped cushion the points lead.

“I ran into the back of Millsaps in the first turn,” said Reed following last week’s race. “I tried to come through the pack and be smart. There is another race and another opportunity next weekend in Las Vegas. I can’t wait until next week. I showed tonight that I want to win this championship more than anyone.”

The top AMA Supercross Lites class riders will square off in the Dave Coombs Sr. East/West Shootout. The Dave Coombs Sr. East/West Shootout pits the top AMA Supercross Lites class riders in each region, East/West, against one another in a 15-lap one-night race for bragging rights in this best–of-the-best competition. The winner of the race will be awarded $5,000 and a 2008 Toyota Tundra truck

In last year’s Dave Coombs Sr. East/West Shootout, Rockstar Makita Suzuki’s Ryan Dungey,
a rookie in the class, won the main event, beating regional AMA Supercross Lites class champions Villopoto and Ben Townley. In AMA Supercross class finals at Sam Boyd Stadium, Kawasaki’s James Stewart, of Haines City, Fla., put an exclamation point on his AMA Supercross championship winning his 13th race of the season.

The first AMA Supercross class race was held at Sam Boyd Stadium on Saturday, March 17, 1990, and Jeff Matiasevich won main event. Jeremy McGrath won the AMA Supercross Lites class race that same evening. McGrath won three consecutive Lites class races before moving to the premier class where he won four main events. In addition to his seven supercross championships, McGrath is first on the all-time win list in both the AMA Supercross class and AMA Supercross Lites class.

The AMA Supercross class will air on SPEED Sunday, May 4 at 6:00 p.m., and the AMA Supercross Lites class race will air on SPEED Saturday, May 10 at 2:00 p.m. CBS Sports will air a season-end recap show Sunday, May 4 at Noon EST.
