"The guy’s an idiot. I mean, look at him, he’s getting drunk before the race, and he’s an embarrassment to our sport, I think... He’s going to learn his lesson one day -- it’ll come. I don’t know when; I’m not a trash-talker guy, but I’m not going to be nice about it. It’s just, I’m kind of over it -- what happened in supercross, and the way he went about things. Any chance I get, I’ll clear his (tail) out."
Friday night before Anaheim I, the guys at One Industries got the notice that Dungey would be terminating his contract the following Monday, as he didn’t want to share a gear sponsor with someone whose image was essentially the
opposite of his.
At Phoenix, Dungey showed up with a new gear sponsor -- Fox Racing. With the recent retirement of Ricky Carmichael and the signing of James Stewart by Answer Racing, Fox was looking for another championship contender to sign during the off-season. They already had Honda Red Bull Racing’s Ivan Tedesco and had recently signed the Lites side of the GEICO Powersports Honda team, but with the loss of Stewart, there was still a hole to fill, and Dungey jumped right into it.
Then, he went out and won the Phoenix Supercross while Lawrence actually failed to qualify for the main event.
Game, set, match?
We’ll find out soon enough at Anaheim II...
