“For some reason Josh (Herrin) and I were getting in each other’s face just a little bit and then I got upset and shook my head and then I was like, ‘I shouldn’t shake my head at the kid because he’s doing a phenomenal job, plus he out-qualified me.’ In the end, these guys were putting up a really incredible pace and I was riding semi conservative and they would just wax me coming onto the straight. I would try to make it back up, but I said, ‘If I keep trying to make it up like that you’re going to fall down.’ Josh and I got to fighting a little bit and I shook my head and he went by and I was like, ‘Okay, let ‘em go.’ They were definitely going as fast as I wanted to go. Unfortunately for Josh, instead of being a photo finish with the three of us, he went wide and that let Jake (Zemke) and I fight it out. We had a battle of red and blue and we have to win now without Josh up there I had to uphold the honor. It was good times. It was fun. I don’t have much else to say except that the Yamaha is pretty awesome -- it’s a great bike.”

“We jumped out to a pretty good start in the first race but it ended up getting red-flagged. Me and my crew thought we were making the right decision by keeping that tire on there and not switching to a new rear, but it ended up being the wrong decision but that happens in racing. We’ll learn from it and come back strong at the next race. Overall, I think it was a really good race. I have to congratulate these guys because they rode a really good race. It was a scorcher out there.”
(Herrin twice ran wide in Turn 3)
“I’ve been really strong there all weekend -- split one was my strongest. When that tire started to lose a little bit of grip, I just couldn’t keep the pace going into there. I guess it was my loss. I screwed up.”
