Dungey passed Davalos for the lead early on the first lap, and Villopoto followed suit before going to work on Dungey for the lead. On lap three, Villopoto finally made a pass stick, but Dungey stayed within only a few seconds of Villopoto for most of the rest of the moto. However, Villopoto extended his win streak to 14, followed by Dungey, Davalos, Brett Metcalfe and Nico Izzi.

Moto two started twice. In the first attempt at a race, Motosport/Xtreme Kawasaki’s Tommy Hahn grabbed the holeshot, but after about 10 minutes of racing, the race was under a deluge and was red-flagged due to lightning in the area. When it started over, Davalos was just edged out for the
holeshot by Dungey, although Villopoto made quick work of both of them to snatch the lead on the opening lap. From there, Villopoto went on to win his 15th-straight moto win, and his seventh overall victory of the season.

In his previous two championship seasons, Villopoto topped out at six overall victories. Already in 2008, he has seven.

“I can’t believe it’s that many already,” Villopoto said. “It seems like a lot of motos, but doesn’t seem like a lot of overalls, but I’m more worried about the big picture -- the championship.”

Villopoto now leads Dungey by 108 points with four rounds left to run.
