Jovy Marcelo died at Indy in 92 at Indy. Zanardi was simply the wrong place at the wrong time, plus Carpentier was doing 210 MPH+ when he hit him. Do you think that any car (Lola, Panoz, Dallara, etc.) could protect the driver in a freak accident like that?
In regarde to penske15
AJ Foyt did a header doing 180 MPH+ and ran into a dirt embankment. Not the fault of Lola there. Mark Dismore backed into the inside wall and then did a header into the pit entrance wall where there was nothing except concrete.
All the incidents that you listed at Indy were the result of very fast speeds, no warm up lane so guys could cut down and the apron to carry the corner, and no safer barrier. When Mears wrecked in practice in 92 when he was sliding on his head, all he sustained were bruises to his leg and a sprained wrist. he didn't have the benefit of the safer barrier and walked away. Kanaan just about broke his ribs and had bruises all along the right side of his body for nearly a month and a half after.
AAAAND?! I MEAN,....what's your point? kanaan BROKE 3 ribs and fractured two more. mears BROKE his wrist and BROKE his foot...again. foyt WAS NOT doing 180 when he hit that embankment. more like 110. mark dismore broadsided the pit abuttment, he didn't take it head on. all of the result at indy ...were a result of RACING!! not speed..... andretti, bonner, sneva just to name a few were all low speed accidents which resulted in injury to the drivers and majoe damage to the noses and forward bulkheads of thier cars.
