Philippe spotted Travis Pastrana in New York this week and offered to help the motorcycle ace and rally driver secure an IndyCar test. He said it's the kind of attention IndyCar needs.
Philippe said Pastrana was easy to notice because he was wearing a Red Bull sweater and expensive DC shoes in the DC store in SoHo. Both companies sponsor him.
Don't know if Pastrana is ready to drive in the 500, but that would be huge news across the extreme sports world, and really generate a ton of international coverage.

Jeff Ward, anyone?
Seriously, though, Pastrana is friggin fearless! This is the guy that jumped out of an airplane WITH NO PARACHUTE because he wanted to recreate the sceen in Point Break! He's a heck of an athlete, has a huge cult following, and wants to win at all costs. I'm sure Red Bull, DC and the other dozen or so companies that sponsor him could come up with the $$$ for at least a ride at Indy. He just needs the seat time, and I question his focus over a four hour race.
On another note - heard on the Bill Simmons ESPN podcast that Ron Artest drove an "Indy Car racecar" to Laker's practice the other day. A - where did he get one? And B - why are there no pics of this?

Why would Nelson give a hand to someone else when he needs to secure a ride himself? Plus Indy already has an Xtreme sport/stuntman in Stanton Barrett.

The best thing would be to get Tiger Woods walking around in an IZOD shirt (after Nike drops him) and then driving in the Indy 500...now that would be attention getting marketing!

"The three-time Rally America champ will attempt to break the world record for distance traveled in a car jump this December 31 for for Red Bull's New Year, No Limits stunt. Travis Pastrana wants to break the record for the longest jump in his rallying Subaru. He'll be launching from the Pine Street Pier in Long Beach and hoping to make it onto a landing ramp (mounted on a floating barge) more than 270 feet away. In between the pier and the ramp: 250 feet of water."
Absolutely crazy.

so, you just proved my point. His x games popularity hasn't helped SCCA rally. so what would it do for the IRL?
