That's great PLN. I don't want the owners completely left out, I just don't want 10 jokers in a room all with their own motives doing what's in their best interest as opposed to what's in the best interest of Indycar....... Status quo is hard to change if one person is making the calls, let alone 10.

More info from Curt Cavin on the Delta Wing design. Sounds like IndyCar prefers a Dallara evolution over a radical design. At least Belskus sure made it a point to talk emphasize Dallara.

And listening to the Robin Miller interview on Planet IRL, it sounds like Barnhart isn't a fan of the radical concept either.
I haven't made up my mind yet as to what I would prefer. If the thing was going to be 3-wheeled as originally thought, no thanks! If it resembles the 45 year old "Spirit of America" as Cavin states, no thanks! If it looks like the model that Honda designed last year, I would be ok with that. And if it resembles a current European formula car, I'd be ok with that, too.

Nothing is set in stone as of yet regarding what chassis is going to be used. The owners certainly have a great deal of influence, as they will be the ones fronting the bill on the cars.
Dallara are certainly stepping up to the plate wanting to build a facility in Indy, to support the series however. This will reduce costs to the teams on a grand scale. For one, we're dealing with the Dollar, not the Euro. For another, we're not talking about international flights to get cars and spares here, or all that goes with it in costs, time, and customs.
If Dallara do build a facility here, it's a huge commitment to the series. If they do commit to the series in such a way, the series needs to be certain that they are secure in the commitment they are making for us.
Part of the hesitation of the series, is the plans for this proposed new Delta Wing "car", is to outsource various parts of the cars to suppliers all around Indianapolis. This arrangement would not work for Dallara, as it would cut out a major portion of their business and likewise, their investment and commitment to the series. Additionally, what happens if say, the company that supplies the control arms goes belly up? Getting a new supplier, even if it's a quick transition, could paralyze the series, or reduce fields for lack of parts.
Compromises would need to be looked at carefully and rather quickly, I might add, if the Delta Wing is to be taken seriously.

Much as I would like to see something new, it is hard to ignore a significant financial commitment by a stable company.

ChrisR,
Don't have a sole supplier for any one part. That way, you aren't holding the bag, if one goes under. Worst case, some one needs to stock pile common parts so another fabricator can ramp up to start making them.
I suspect, from your quotes around the word car, that what you have seen doesn't meet your definition of a car. It also seems you are quite heavily in the Dallara camp. All I can say is that if the teams are all for this wild design and having multiple suppliers, over Dallara, then some one at Dallara must have pissed off a good number of their customers over the years. Otherwise they would be happy with giving them the series business for more years to come.

No one is upset with anyone, for starters.
What I'm stating is that Dallara will not chose to spend and set up shop under the Delta Wing current proposal.
With Dallara we have a known, very well proven entity. At this moment, the Delta Wing car is an entire unknown product.
The Delta Wing needs more proof that they are a viable product. Right now it's a radical unknown. There are a lot of unknown variables on the table with them and not so with Dallara, or Swift, for that matter.
Put it this way: Are you more comfortable putting your life savings in a bank, insured by the F.D.I.C. or, do you want to put your life savings on a brand new unproven stock that has a damm good sales pitch?
