Danica, Great for NASCAR, Bad for other women drivers.

So, Ms. Stomp is coming to NNS. Worst kept secret since Kyle Busch forming a truck team. Great for NASCAR. The media attention, the added revenue, more butts in the seats. A winning combo right?

What about all of the other women trying to break into the upper echelon of NASCAR? This just set all of their careers backwards. May have even killed their hopes of ever having an opportunity to make it into the big show.

And talk about re-enforcing stereotypes! Will the ladies in waiting now have to pose bikini clad on a beach for a magazine in order to attract sponsorship dollars?

I'm curious, the ladies of this board haven't really commented.

not used to you baiting, SOK... how does this hurt the prospects for other ladies??? (like there's a line of them at the garage every week with helmet bags) Chrissy Wallace will succeed or fail on her own... so will any others...

actually, it seems that there's WAY more women in O/W looking up the ladder than in stock cars... seems like she's helped in that arena... how will she hurt them in this arena???

I sure would like you compare some of the men landing rides in NASCAR that present themselves as little more than dum bass hicks... talk about something being bad for other women drivers!

I never took you to be a us versus them, guys versus gals, kinda guy.

Now we know.

If you don't like her just say so, but don't blame her for the failings of her colleagues.

In NASCAR you have to be marketable which she happens to be(Or you have to bring your own money) . That is her fault? rolleyes

After 5 years and 81 races in the IRL her average finish is 10.1 with 46 top tens. Exactly what part of her resume doesn't qualify her to run in the Nationwide series?

Name 1 female driver in a lower series with over $5mil in career earnings, a sponsor, and something close to her stats that should have gotten this ride.

In case you hadn't noticed, the other female racers in the feeder series can't get sponsorship to compete in more than a few races. They can't get sponsorship, they can't get seat time. End of story.

But I guess if you are willing to pose for a magazine or two, things happen. The stereotype continues. Nothing Diverse about that.

they don't have 2 TOP 5's @ Indy... dues were paid...
if you think the swimsuit shoots mean more than 2 top 5's in the country's most prestigious race (YES, still moreso than Daytona), you're kidding yourself... they (the photo-shoots) opened doors, her driving let her walk through them...
I guess I can group you with Lovey as talent scout wannabes that know more than Chip or Michael... I thought you'd have a better reason, SOK...

I dunno I think Danica's presence whether it be limited or full time in NASCAR will help women drivers. It all depends on whether she can handle the pressure and perform.

If she can do that someone will take notice of the others out there. That could lead to more women getting a shot.

She's proven she can turn down in turn one at 200mph. Works for me. If she has some measure of success, it will be a plus for other female driver's. If she doesn't, it could bad for them.
That's pretty much it.

Let me first day I like Danica so I am not bashing.

I do not see her adding one butt to a seat. Seriously. My wife likes to follow how she does but she does not watch the races FOR HER.

The hype will not help NASCAR either. I think that for the most part a few may even tune out if race coverage becomes the Jr./Leader/Danica show instead of the Jr./Leader coverage we get now.

I think Danica could do well in the series, but she needs to be treated like every other driver that comes from another series instead of someone special because she is a woman.

You are kidding, right? She was kept around because she was a cash cow to a dying sport. She wasnt a cash cow because of her performance,it was gender and the fact that she was somewhat pretty, unlike the other female drivers. Sarah Fisher is a better driver in my opinion, just never had the equipment that Danica's good looks afforded her.Finishing a few races in the top 2-3 with pit strategy and some luck and winning 1 race the same way doesnt mean you are a great race car driver.Danica is an average driver who finishes 6-10th every race because she doesnt take chances and waits for her final spot thru attrition.I doubt there is any driver in the top 10 who loses as many posistions during the course of the race compared to where she qualifies. If she gets in a wheel to wheel battle, she almost always is the one who concedes and lives to finish. She finished 5th i believe in points but is nowhere near the 5th fastest, she just takes no chances and tries to finish. That and some good looks obviously will make you a multi millionaire in todays warped society.

She will definitely bring money and possibly fans to NASCAR. She is easy on the eyes and talented. It may not be fair to the other women drivers in the feeder series (them struggling, while she gets top notch ride without so much as a lap under her belt). But, that's BUSINESS. With all the buzz this has stirred up, my question is: who gets the egg on the face if she fails or be deemed the most brilliant mind of our time should she succeed? Somebody will end up in the penthouse or the #%@*house.
