What do you think about this??
He obviously knows it's good to cross-train.

Joe, that was actually him racing (in a forbidden race that could never take place... yet it took place. Dovi won on combined times, but only because Julian Simon had to skip race 3 to catch a flight. Apparently Simon was pretty dominant and Dovi is pretty good on the dirt as well. I think Rossi finished 2nd or 3rd overall with Melandri in there).

That Rossi rode a MX bike? Were you unaware that Rossi trains on MX and Supermoto bikes, Joe?
Would I want to watch? No, not at all. Looks like a blast to ride but to me it is as exciting to watch as baseball. (in other words, not interesting in the slightest)

I watched the video highlights of this "race."
This was a charity event and was ridden as such.

Care to provide a link?
Oh, and according to a report I read, Rossi crashed in Race 1 (he remounted). Must have been taking it really easy.

Seriously, what does him crashing in the mud mean?
Nothing.
This was a charity event comprised of a bunch of guys riding out of their element to raise money for a bunch of sick kids.

To someone who is a pro-MX fan, watching MX amateurs race would probably look like they weren't trying.
Did Graziano race too? If so it definitely wasn't at a pro-MX pace.

It looked like a practice day at the local MX track except the track they were riding on looked like it was designed for a vintage MX event.

Graziano wasn't listed in the results for any of the races, so I doubt he ran. He was present at the event though.
And this weekend they will run another similar event, but this time with pro MX riders (such as Cairoli, aka the guy that beat Reed) teamed up with road racing riders. Capirossi and plenty of other GP guys will be there.
And sure the GP guys wont be as fast as the MX guys... but the point is that they are taking part in an event that our resident expert deemed impossible due to the risks involved. Oh well... we will just add it to the top of the pile.

This weekends race, which will include most of the same GP guys sans Rossi, will be held at the exact same track where the MX of Nations was held just a few weeks ago. What's the excuse this time?

It was a charity event not a race to see who is the best racer in the world.
This was no different than an exhibition kart race the wednesday before a GP.
To someone who has never done anything, it probably did seem much more momentous than it really was.
And the track still looked like it was desgned for a vintage MX event. I have been to those as well... you?
