Ross Brawn has hinted strongly that the newly re-branded Mercedes GP team is only on the market for a single driver for 2010...

"He has my number. He can call me at any time," Haug said, referring to the 30-year-old Finn.

...with an attitude like that, I'm not surprised that Button went with McLaren. Seriously... apart from the caché of Ferrari (and maybe McLaren), is there another team out there that drivers actively petition to drive for?
Kimi did, I suppose, work to get to McLaren, but MB has not proved itself to be a place where drivers call to get themselves a seat. MB should be actively working on getting Kimi, the way Toyota tried valiantly.

I doubt anything will happen until Renault confirms their plans for 2010. If they choose to leave the sport, Kubica slots in behind Kimi as the top talent available.

Haug has hinted at pulling off a surprise. I keep thinking Schumi, but I cannot believe that would happen. Kimi is a long shot. Renault may take months to figure out. Haug has stated in a video interview that we should know in a couple of weeks.

frarob is correct in saying that the Mercedes driver decesion is contingent with what Renault does, unless Kimi desides to pick up the phone, and call Norbert, or Michael returns Ross's calls. Aah, tomorrow is another day.
