Pedro de la Rosa could make a return to the Formula One racing grid next year with Force India...

de la Rosa was scrappy when he was an active driver, and is strong in the wet. He's been a high level test driver now for many years, so perhaps this is a move by Mallya to bring in a solid technical driver to help sort out a chassis that was very competitive in a low downforce set up and lousy at high downforce circuits. One has to be curious now about the status of Sutil, who has shown speed and promise in the Force India. With Mercedes having just acquired the majority of Brawn, Button out of the picture, and FI a Mercedes customer team, could Sutil land next to Nico Rosberg at Mercedes proper? That would satisfy the German lineup of drivers.

I don't see Pedro de la Rosa in any F1 car in 2010, he's a talented test driver, but those days are gone. He might find himself in a technical position as a liaison between driver and engineer/mechanics.?.

There is Mercedes involvement all around here - de la Rosa may be plucked from McLaren and assigned to Force India so that Sutil can go to Mercedes. Each move may benefit the customer teams on the price of the engine supply. It's not that far fetched or "tin hat" if you will - McLaren has two strong drivers now, and Hamilton seems to have respectable technical ability. Force India needs technical help, especially since the McLaren engineer assigned to the team last year is gone. Mercedes is rumored to want two German drivers, and Sutil may be a diamond in the rough and was darn fast on several occasions in 2009. Good qualifyer.

If this trend continues, the average age of F1 drivers for 2010 will be what, 40?

I wish Pedro would take a test for USF1.

Frarob, I agree with your comment about Mercedes having a hand in these moves. They have too much at stake in F1 for them to be passive but I think their own position with their new team is too precarious. I think Sutil was terrific this past year and Heidfeld who has also been rumored, has been effective. But they don't have anyone in the MB car who has proven they can win and right now they need that level of talent signed with the MB team. The only available drivers with that demonstrated capability are Schumacher and Kimi. Neither would come cheaply. Many threadmates are not enthralled with these news stories on drivers signing or negotiating in the off season, but these moves for the top teams are just as important as off season testing in determining the success or failure of the the teams. Right now, MB is vulnerable compared to McLaren and Ferrari and even Renault. This is something that they can't be comfortable with right now.

He couldent do anything all the times he had to fill in for drivers at Mclaren. Imagine how bad he will do in Force India?

I think Mercedes would be more comfortable with Rosberg's potential had he not thrown away what would have been a solid podium in Singapore with the pit lane exit foul. He is awfully quick there, and that is an indication of his natural ability. I don't think "The Mike" will choose to negotiate an exit from his commitment to Ferrari although his initial high level racing experience came in one of Peter Sauber's Mercedes affiliated Group C cars. How quickly it is forgotten that Peter Sauber ushered Mercedes back onto the F1 grid, long before the lump was in a McLaren.
