Brawn (privateer) the first (or at least the seemingly most effective) double diffuser this past season.
Actually you are wrong there, Brawn deveolped the DD while getting paid by Honda. So technically Honda developed the DD, even though it was his interpretation of the rules. Although I am not disputing your point I do basically aggree with you. It is people that come up with innovations, not companies. The companies just pay for them.

Probably because of deep rooted psychological problems based on childhood inadequacies. 
I thought it was due to a pathological objection to incomplete sentences.

Why did Brawn suddenly rise from Honda's ashes and claim the WDC and WMC titles?
Certainly the Mercedes power played a large role, but I prefer as primary what the late, great Smokey Yunick might have called a 'superior reading of the rules' (the term Smokey used to refer to cheating) regarding the double diffuser and a better application of said reading than the others who read them the same way..........
