I was wondering something, I've noticed we talk about Le Mans and Australian V8 Supercars, but is there anyone here who likes Super GT?
Cuz it seems like it doesn't exist to some people.

It doesn't exist to me..Aussie V8 super cars: ...I know they exist, but since I can't see them on TV....do I really care?
Because I flag I get to see series that don't get airtime, and follow them, but if a tree falls in the woods..

Seriously, looks cool, I have heard of the JCTC, did not know it was called SuperGT, but am completely unaware of the rules system, major participants, etc...any more than I might know about FIA GT. I know its out there, but thats about it.
Sorry, but its hard enough to follow US road racing that gets minimal or poor TV coverage: Speed World Challenge, Koni, Grand AM, ALMS, SCCA, NASA, Mustang Challange...At east I can read reports on-line or flag for them at the track.

I've said for a long time that I would be willing to scrap all the GT series in this country for a set of rules and cars like these. This is what high performance GT racing should be.

SuperGT is basically prototype racing with street car bodies.

With the emphasis Speed puts on oval series, this is just another road racing series we won't see; I don't see any reason to think even HD Theater would pick this up.
Any more than I think the fans would take to it. With the exception of two or three open-wheel series, American racing has been about production car racing - look at the popularity of NASCAR and Trans-Am in its heyday - and these cars are too far removed from production cars.

We (myself and some other forum members) badgered Jim Libertore and Speed staff into giving the series a try back in 2002, arguing that it had appeal to the Grand Turismo generation and those into the import racing scene. The ratings, like those for the DTM and other non-North American series shown in the winter, were pretty abyssmal. It was also, according to Speed, very hard to find a TV package (They didn't want to have to produce English language broadcasts themselves).
The driving standards in the series are pretty poor as well. The GT500 teams are all factory associated and have strong, professional driving line-ups, but the drivers in the GT300 under-class could be pretty bad. That did lead to a fair bit of entertaining mayhem though...

The series wouldn't take off here unless they had a few North American rounds. However with a few North American rounds, they could possibly attract some North American drivers and the series just may have a possibility of working here. I think the ALMS should have a class for these cars, with similar rules and cars and call it...wait for it...GT1...!

These cars are way above GT1.
