New teams want Pedro for his technical knowledge not as much his driver skill. They need him to help with setup and general deveopment of the car.

On the other hand, perhaps Kimi knows Michael is the other German at Mercedes and that's why he is being pessimistic about his chances.
If the other German in contention for the seat would be someone like Heidfeld, Kimi could be confident getting the seat over him. But if Mercedes already has decided they will go with Schumacher, it's obvious they would not back down from that once they've decided to go that way.
But I remain highly skeptical about that and, as usual, will only believe it when I see it.
Though I'm a Schumacher fan, I think Kimi would be a much wiser choice for Mercedes.

I think Sutil is also a good fit for Mercedes if Kimi isn't hired. Montagny is also a good prospect for Renault. Not so sure about Heikki going back there, but without Flavio around it might be tollerable. Force India will probably stick with Tonio and Giancarlo, unless Sutil stays. USF1 would be fools to bring Villeneuve in he's been out of the loop for too long, de la Rossa would be a better experienced driver to start out with. I think Summerton is also a good prospect for USF1.
