...The sum of the parts is greater than the individual components. Without Chad, JJ would be very good. Without JJ, Chad would be a very good crew chief. Together, this is what you get. Congrats again to them. smile

Out of all the multiple interviews I've seen and read, there was one where Jimmie answered the question of what makes them so great a little differently. In the end, he thinks it's that they want it so badly - more than anyone else. And the "they" there is key: Not just that he wants it more than anyone else - but that everyone on the team is hungry. Chad has echoed that with the statement that they don't hire people for their skills as much as they hire them for their attitude.

In this sense, I think it is the sum of their parts, and you've got to wonder if Mark Martin will be able to beat them as long as he continues to maintain that the championship isn't that important to him.

People ask me all the time, where does he stack up, comparatively?  I’ve seen every great driver drive, I’ve seen every great driver win their championships.  In my mind, this driver, this crew chief, this team is the all time best - bar none.  I saw Petty, I saw Earnhardt, I’ve seen Gordon, I’ve seen Bill Elliott, Rusty Wallace, Terry Labonte, this is the best.”- DW on Jimmie Johnson

None of us know how Mark really feels about a championship - just because he says one thing for the media doesn't necessarily mean that it's true. Honestly, he all but retired, raced part-time for a couple of years - why go through the rigors of a 36 race schedule if he didn't have a burning desire to win a championship when a part-time schedule would have been so much easier on himself and his family. Maybe we'll find out next year how badly he wants it.
