Could JimmIE johnson drive a car like Richard Petty or Bobby Allison drove and beat them? Um, no. Could Richard Petty and Bobby Allison drive a car like JimmIE johnson drives and beat him? Um, hell yes. End of debate.

And you know this how?

Oh I dont know. Just ask todays drivers how easy the cars drive today. yes, even the COT.

Good point, It really shows just how good the 48 team is, they won the championship before and after the cot.

IMO you can really compare drivers from 20 or more years ago to today's drivers. The only thing that's the same is the flag colors and the 15 in wheel. Having said that, I dont think there is a greatest driver ever, I think it would be greatest drivers ever. I would defiantly put him on that list, with an * noting Chad Kanus as the CC.

Good...yes Greatest...no at least not yet. I do however think the Johnson/Knauss driver/crew chief is the greatest Ive ever seen. What some people fail to do is give any crew chiefs in this sport credit. No doubt 4 cups in a row is pretty amazing stuff but IMO I almost think Cale doing 3 in a row with 2 different crew chiefs is almost a more amazing feat by a driver than 4 in a row with the same crew chief. Lets face it a crew chief can make or break a driver. Some drivers can win titles no matter who their crew chief is and well some cant. If Johnson can switch crew chiefs and still win cups that that would be saying a lot for him and he would be right up there. I think Knauss has as much of a role in all these cups as Johnson does. Theyre probably the best combination Ive ever seen

The Greatest huh?

Let's wait for history to decide that.

Recent sports history hasn't been so kind to it's "heroes" of years past. Revelations of drug enhancement or other unscrupulous behaviors have relegated some of these sports super heroes to has-been's.

If he's the greatest, it will stand the test of time.

But it’s "easy" for everyone. That would only make the competition sharper and therfore just as hard win.

In equally prepared cars Johnson wouldnt finish in the top 10 of "the greatest drivers".

Best of all time? Surely you don't think that people with knowledge and/or experience in motorsports at any level would even consider this cheating basterd as the best! "Superman" may a$$! Able to leap tall rule books in a single bound! Faster than a speeding bullet on pit road! 1 win in 92 starts BEFORE Ricky bought him. The word Best is for the drivers that have, can, and still do drive many types of cars to the front in many different series! Jimmie Johnson has NOT nor CANNOT! One good example would be Tony Stewart, IRL CHAMPION, USAC CHAMPION, TWO-TIME CUP CHAMPION, FOUR-TIME WOO CHAMPION AS AN OWNER, TRACK OWNER, RACE PROMOTER, ETC.,ETC. Some "goober smoocher" for Rick Hendrick to bribe into history is not a consideration for the best if you know your "bung-hole" from a hole in the ground!

It's well known that in the old days none of those guys were driving "equally prepared cars." Jimmie is driving cars that are a heck of a lot more equal than anything Richard Petty's competition had.

It's likely that a majority your list of top 10 "greatest drivers" would have a hard time keeping up with Jimmie today - just as the other modern day "greats" have.

People ask me all the time, where does he stack up, comparatively?  I’ve seen every great driver drive, I’ve seen every great driver win their championships.  In my mind, this driver, this crew chief, this team is the all time best - bar none.  I saw Petty, I saw Earnhardt, I’ve seen Gordon, I’ve seen Bill Elliott, Rusty Wallace, Terry Labonte, this is the best.”- DW on Jimmie Johnson
