You do know he is returning in 2011 right?
Didn't Mika Häkkinen take a 1 year sabbatical from F1? How many years has that been now? I wouldn't count on the "Cashman" returning.
Just curious, what's the difference between what Kimi is doing and what the guy in your avatar did?
Just curious, when did the guy in my Avatar announce he was taking a 1 year sabbatical from F1?
So it's ok to go race elsewhere for good but not for a year? He didn't leave F1 voluntarily. Montoya did and he had every right to do so. Same as Kimi.
Kimi could have been at McLaren next year, but he chose to take more money by sitting out. I'm not faulting him for doing that, but he did have an option to drive with a top team, he decided not to take it.
Who knows, maybe his sabbatical will be like Alain Prost's and he'll be back in 2011 with Mercedes GP after they have a rude awakening that while the car is a big component of F1, they should not have gone with 2 drivers who had never won a race!
Maybe 2011 will see Kimi and MS paired at Mercedes GP! (note: that's pretty much a joke, I think it has about 0.000001% chance of happening)

I don't dispute that. I'm talking about what I see as double standard. Montoya would have had the same opportunities if not better ones to stay in F1. Apparently it's OK for him to jump ship for Nascar
during the season but not OK for Kimi to go rallying or whatever he wants to do after he's been tossed from Ferrari.
If that's not the case, I'll stand corrected.

OK....I understand your position.
Certainly Kimi can do what he wants as long as it only effects himself. When his wants are not in alignment with the people who he needs to give him a ride is where the problem arises.
I am not a lawyer so I ask you. What would have happened if he refused the buyout at Ferrari?
I admit that I was really hoping he would be at McLaren in 2010 and I am disappointed. If I said something you found offensive I am sorry.
PS - In my opinion Montoya left because he had a shot at the WDC with McLaren and he fell short. He knew he would never get a car as good again. He is very emotional and tends to make impulsive decisions like leaving Williams and then leaving F1.
edit: I wrote this before I saw the above post. I need to type faster.
Hey..I never said he couldn't Rally or sleep on his couch.

You've got me there. I've wondered the same thing. I can only guess that once someone tells you you are no longer welcome, it's too uncomfortable to stay. I think Montoya was getting the same vibe from McLaren and another opportunity presented itself. Neither one of them seems to care for some of the nonsense associated with F1. I think Montoya is better off where he his and I think Kimi will be better off where ever he goes. Hopefully WRC. A lot of people commented that he was a totally different person and more relaxed when he went off to rally earlier in the year. I don't expect him to came back.
BTW no offense at all. It's just sports talk.

Guess we won't see Kimi in NASCAR in his 1+ years off. They wouldn't want him. He doesn't smile enough and he wouldn't do a TV commercial where he has to play the obligatory male idiot.
But he has a mullet. That should count for a lot.

I was under the impression that both Kimi and Felipe had metrics written into their contract such as a minimum number of points scored to maintain their jobs as earlier in the season I heard Ferrari was going to kept the high scorer from this year to pair with Alonso before Massa got hurt. Also there were rumors that the dog of the car Ferrari produced would allow them to get rid of both drivers if they desired because it wouldn't be quick enough to let them met their performance metrics. So Kimi's choice may have been walk out of Ferrari with a big bag of money or get fired in really ugly manner. Just my speculation.

Perhaps you should read them again. I never disagreed with you on that point. I disagreed with your characterization of Kimi as the "cashman" and the distinction you were making between him and Montoya.
Of course we could be way off and he will race for Mercedes.
