He won a title, so yeah. He has the mentality of a champion. Quick and easy.

Yeah, and so does Nicky, right?
ND, good try... but you haven't explained your hypocritical view on how important Ben's "intelligence" is and yet how unimportant Casey's is?

Actually, yes...Nicky does too. He just hasn't had the talent/equipment to repeat as champion against the current field.
And as far as Stoner is concerned, I guess there IS the possibility that the electronics did something unexpected that contributed to his crash? I mean, my computer does weird stuff all the time. Is it possible that his did too?

Hayden showed up with the win or bin attitude at the last race - I do think he has the mentality of a winner. The skills, compared to the best in world at the moment? Not quite.

Stoner can go out on a bike and be on lap record pace in a cocaine heartbeat.
He consistently does the fewest laps in practice and yet still is always on pace.
You know why?
Because he is smart enough to know what he wants from the bike and smart enough to get it.
RR, you really are getting lamer by the second in this one.
Coupled this with the other threads, the lame personal PM and it is clear you are just not having a very good day.
Perhaps you should try again some other time.

Right, so he was smart enough to figure out what he wanted from the bike on the warm up lap, but not smart enough to get it? Is that what happened?
The fact that he refuses to admit he made a mistake is as sad as it is concerning. But where is your comment on that ND? As I said, you are the one touting how important it is to keep learning all the time... yet Casey has been stuck in place since 2007.
Sure, he caught everyone by surprise in 2007. His bike was laughably faster than the others down the straights, and at certain tracks the B-stones were easily faster than the Michelins.
Since then he hasn't changed his approach, despite everyone else stepping up their game. I can't wait for Ducati to be done with him and move on.

This debate is tired. Everyone agrees that Stoner made a mistake.
When Ducati are done with Stoner and move on, they will be back where they were unless things change dramatically - occasional wins but no titles.

Stoner has 10 wins since the '07 season.
For those keeping count, that is more wins in the premier class in 2 years than anyone else on the grid not named Rossi has in their entire career.
Yep, standing still.

Where they were was up front and one Sete bowling ball away from a title shot. The last year of the 990's Ducati were very competitive and it wasn't by chance that they finished 1-2 in the last 990cc race ever. If Stoner leaves they will figure out how to make a fast bike for another rider, don't worry.
Right ND, he also has more warm up crashes and races missed than anyone else on the grid.
The guy is A-ok if you are into some nice looking race wins. Not so much if you after a title against Rossi and Lorenzo. There are a million analogies... like the girl who is good at certain things but that you don't keep for the long run.
