Edwards very likely to Indy Lights

John Edwards plans have evaporated in the Indy
Car ranks as he is looking his way in the
Indy Lights division. There is no doubt that
he is still young and the Indy Lights is a
very plausible route, but he is determined
for his dream in racing Formula 1 in the
future after winning the 2004 Red Bull Driver
Search. His GP2 plans have dwindled down.
And I was hoping he would get a taste of
GP2 as tests were underway at Paul Ricard.

We hope he has a ride for next year.

Thanks for the article Placid and this is the first time I've heard from Wachs or Edwards about a possible move to Indy Lights. I'm guessing Wachs is going to start a Lights team as Edwards as driver. If he does this I hope Edwards well and should once again be an interesting Indy Lights championship with so many of the top Atlantic teams making the jump.

Hito: Edwards test is confirmed. He along with Pippa Mann
Mario Romancini and newcomer Mike Hill will test for
Sam Schmidt Motorsports next Monday and Tuesday. Let's see
if he will make his transition with Indy Lights.

We hope he does not make another Alexander Rossi mystery
like last year thinking that Rossi was going to Atlantics
and surprises us for Formula Master.

That's exactly what I hope he does.

Agreed. Then I'm torn on this because I do wish for America's best talent to stay in the Indycar Series and help it grow. Plus we have quite a few talented lads already trying their luck overseas. Edwards has grown up in the American OW ladder and has done well throughout and I'd like to see him do well in Indycars mostly since supposedly the new motors and chassis are coming out in only a couple of years.

Better that he stay w/Indy Lights IMO, Formula Masters is basically an F2000 series, European exposure but quite a step down from the Atlantics car (as is the Lights car for that matter). As a fan I'm happy to see him stay in the States, but would rather see a new IndyCar team.

If he wants a shot at F1, why would he drive oval oriented cars on tracks that are vastly different from F1 tracks? IFM is like F3 and if he does well there he'll get a crack at GP2 or F3ES. If he wins ILS, it will mean nothing.

Edwards and Waches were seriously thinking about taking a shot at Europe but apparently don't have the resources or money so the Indy Lights is the next logical step even though they said it wasn't even on their radar just a few months ago.

Formula Masters is definitely a step down from something like Euro F3 or even British F3 (which is way overrated in recent years IMO) and some might argue even below Formula Renault. Formula Masters is good because it lets a guy like Edwards get familiar with the European tracks plus playing support series to F1 at times isn't bad either.

I'm sure Edwards has European ladder dreams but its just not plausible at this time.If Edwards can do well and win the Lights championship I'd be happy.

There is also Formula 2. And the testing fee might be
less.
