Yes, 2-strokes would be the way to go for privateers. I do think though that 2002 season showed that the 500s are a bit on the small side to do battle with 990 4-strokes. As a result, like I said in a previous post, 750cc 2-stokes would be recommendable...

Would be interesting to see what could be done to a two-stroke with modern technology and TC. Aprilia were using TC on their 250 bikes, but they said it was a very basic system.

It's ok, we have great minds like winters to correct us.

250s were the ultimate race bikes - light, powerful, great handling. It's tragedy to see them go. Far worse than the loss of 500s.

If they want cheap horsepower, go back to strokers.

We have a winner! Satellite leasing costs doubled with 4 strokes.

(cue winters to say his bit about 2 strokes not being sold as street bikes rolleyes )

And those MOTOGP bikes and F1 cars are all over the streets.

I have never understood why anyone cares what they sound like. If that was my concern I'd go to a concert instead. Makes me think of when they brought in BOTT racing, and I'd have to hear about the SOUND while those slow pigs were circulating. Two strokes sound fast to me - because they are. To this day no normally aspirated 4 stroke of equal displacement can approach one.
