How do you get ready for an F1 race?

Having been an F1 fan for more years then I care to admit; I recall the days before cable when the only way to watch it was on ABC Wide World of Sports - and then it was on a B&W;TV at my house.

Today I watch it on a 52" 1180P screen with Dolby. When the say "turn it up".....

I get ready by running about 100 laps or so on a race sim the week or two before. I was never a gamer in the past, but a racin-bud of mine turned me on to that about a year ago, and I'm hooked.

Looking back the difference between the B&W;screen and 52" HD didn't make nearly the difference that having laps in a Race Sim with an F1 car at the same track does.

So how do you prepare for an F1 race?

Given the normal airing time, the key part of my preparation is waking up

Me? Mostly my "preparation for a race" involves getting out of bed and turning on the television. Depending on when the race is broadcast, I might also open a bag of chips and a bottle of coca~cola.

Now, if I were a participant, in one form or another, there would be the trip from the hotel to the track, getting dressed in Nomex and putting on the helmet...

Yes, wake up, make coffee during the grid walk, be sure to catch the starting lineup before the lights go out. Also, one finger of Glenfidich in the coffee greatly enhances the viewing experience wink .

I set the DVR and begin watching 45 minutes after the broadcast starts; that way I can FF thru all the commercials and I'm live about the time the post race intervews start............

waking up--or depending on the location, drinking coffee to stay awake ...setting up the dvd to record and pressing the button. oddly the last 4 races of the season wouldn't record any video onto dvd so i had to switch back to vhs. (
