Racing is about risk, about taking your car as fast as it will go and beating everyone else who is doing the same.

I'd like to see the cars run as fast as they can too but the restictor plates prevent that from happening. It's like taking an Olympic track star and forcing him to breathe like an 80 year old with emphysema. Smaller less powerful non restricted engines wont change a thing if they can't put out more power than the current restrictor engines.

Bulldoze Talladega as a start, and do not worry about replacing it with another cookie cutter track. Just make two more open weekends on the schedule.

Run the July Daytona race on the road course. It's already there [free], would be more interesting, and one less restrictor plate race.

Use a small v8 at these tracks so they can run flat out(175mph tops) and hit each other and bounce around like idiots. Its Nascar you put your right foot to the floor Dale and you hold it there til someone hits you or Nascar has a reason to have a yellow flag.

heres a solution=
a.) leave the tracks alone, improve soft walls and catch fences
b.) take the COT and make it more stock for example, australian V8 supercars are amazingly fast and resemble there street versions very well. Nascar should bring a V8 supercar over here and test it at the tracks and look into changing a few things on the COT to resemble the Ausi's car. might make racing more interesting and bring back the race on sunday sell on monday moto.

Reality is usually pretty interesting.

I'm not real sure why folks keep referring to NASCAR not wanting to spend any money to fix the plate tracks. Remember, it's ISC not NASCAR, and ISC is the France Empire. As I stated in the original post, they'd rather 50 teams (gotta include the 'start & parks') spend millions each year on engine programs for just the plate tracks than ISC spend one thin dime! Also, I never inferred that the plate races weren't exciting, just that it takes a lot more cajones than skill to drive flat footed at 190 for 3 hours. Not to mention it's incredably dangerous for the drivers. Aero aids (roof flaps) and higher stronger fences have minimized fan danger even though cars still fly. I still believe that a terminal velocity of 230+ for a couple seconds before off-throttle & braking on a flatter track would be breathtakingly exciting. A candid driver poll would show that the vast majority agree I'm sure. As far as unrestricted smaller V8's, technology and higher RPM's would have output rivaling the current 5.7 liters within a couple years. Maybe if we strapped a 4X8 sheet of plexiglass on the front... think of the sponsor ads like you see on city bus windows! Happy Thanksgiving. Way to go Jimmie even if you are sort of stinking up the seasons lately.
