Fix the chase

In no other sport does the teams that did not make the playoffs get to have a say so in the outcome of playoffs but NASCAR. You can not stop them from have some impact because they must race on the same track but I suggest they have 2 scoring systems for the Chase. Those in the chase will earn chase points. Only Chase drivers can earn these points and they only count for the Chase. Just as in normal NASCAR points you earn points for how you finish, laps led, and most laps led. It would not matter where you finish in the list of 43 drivers, The Chase driver that finishs ahead of all other chase drivers would get 50 points (and if they lead a lap 55 points and if they lead the most laps of the Chase drivers they earn 60 points). If no chase driver leads a lap then no points will be given for those items.

This would make the CHASE points tighter and more drivers would still in the running. If there was a tie the driver with the most Chase wins would win the tie.

Chase Drivers would still earn normal points under the current point system. These points would determine next years starting positions just like today.

This race within a race is done in many other classes of racing and is easy to track.

This current point system where if a driver has a bad day and finishes in 43 place kills him. Under my suggestion he would only loose 50 points to the leader.

NASCAR needs to do something to make the Chase exciting for more people all the way to the last few races.

NASCAR DO something.

I liked the idea of awarding points every lap instead of only the last lap. Just like the top 3 spots getting 3, 2, & 1 extra bonus points. Lead a bunch and win the championship. And dump the stupid lucky dog, you suck so bad we're givin' you an award.

Lose the chase and lose the lucky dog.

Let every racer be important again.

Until the very last race.

heres a cool idea give them their own points system, it will give them the chance to battle amongst themselves.
top 12
1.120
2.110
3.100
4.90
5.80
6.70
7.60
8.50
9.40
10.30
11.20
12.10

5 for leading a lap
+5 more for leading the most
10 point bonus for winning the race.
this might make things more exciting and if not....
how about zero points for those chasers who finish outside the top 30

The real way to fix the Chase would be to kick Rousch, Childress, Gibbs and the rest of the teams in the tail and get them to perform in the Chase.

Replace the Chase.

Have the first 26 races be on Sudays at 1PM local time. Run the last ten on Saturday Nights. That way you'd avoid the NFL competition while retaining the integrity of the point system for the entire 36 race schedule, yet making the last ten races 'special'.

If we must have a 10 race championship run for a 36 race season. The scoring for those in that championship 'chase' should only be scored against each other....not against the other 31 cars that are creating traffic.

If chaser A wins a race and chaser B (the 2nd place chaser) finishes 21st.....chaser A should not get a 20 place point differential....the 20 intervening cars were not a part of the 'chase race'.

There isn't anyway that the chase can be fixed, so to speak, since there isn't anything wrong with it, and it isn't broke.- Brian France
