^ As I have stated wayyyy too many times already, the problem with slowing the cars down to accomodate the track is that the track was built for the sole purpose of seeing how fast a car can go. To slow down the cars is counterproductive of the intent of the track.

Not only that, slowing the cars down will just keep these cars in the same packs we've had, just slower.

It's the fact that the cars don't have to lift in the turns that's causing the problems. I say, take everything from below the grill off the car (the splitter and the front air dam) and slap on a smaller spoiler. Basically, take away as much downforce as possible. That should break up the pack racing.

But, Nascar won't do that.

It's not just keeping the cars out of the stands. Although that would end racing as we know it.

When CART tried to run at Texas, the cornering speeds were so high, the drivers almost passed out. They cancelled the race. And with the speeds they were getting at Daytona with an unrestricted car, they were approaching those speeds. Give the teams a month to tune an engine for an unrestricted race, and a chance to set the car up with the right gear, and you're in the same situation. They hit the banking, the blood is forced into their legs, and it's nite nite at 240+ mph. It's the reason fighter pilots have to wear special pneumatic pants.

Not to mention the incredible force of a car going that fast impacting even a safer barrier...

Speaking of which. I saw a piece of a show yesterday which had some lady doing some analysis on the wrecks by Ryan at Dega, McDowell and Gordon at Texas. One of her comments was to the affect of...

'Ryan was at XX degree angle when he hit the wall so the impact was as if he was only doing 70 mph. Not that bad.'

Say what!
In relative terms it may not have been 180 but lady - get a grip on what you are saying.

It would be great to strap her, and all the other talking heads, into a car and let it run head on into a wall at 70 and then let them speak from experience.

The Texas CART race you refer to was canceled after a car crashed going into turn one and the wreckage, including said driver in the cockpit, went all the way around the track to turn 4.
