CliffC, what day are we on in your count? Maybe Penske is leaving Marlboro? I thought the stuff buried about Alex Tagiliani was much more important. The stuff about that Brasil race was interesting too.IMO.
Sir Roger leaving Marlboro? You think Penske is going to run privateer? LOL
Killing the free ticket giveaways, along with the uncoupling of Nascar packages at some tracks, mean that the lousy TV ratings will be accompanied by measly race attendance. There's a LOL.
And BraZil; the truth is that with each passing day, this junket looks like its nothing more than a pink elephant. LOL

I think the ISC package split ups will even out, between NASCAR people who went but won't now, and Indy people who wanted to go but didn't/couldn't. Marlboro information will definitely hurt attendance. I wonder if the dropping of Richmond factored into PM's decision?

I was mocking CliffC and his post of Marlboro leaving Penske. As for the ticket give aways we shal see but 25% sounds pretty high to me. I was at 2 races and their were not that many red hats at the 2 races I was in attendence.Which races were you in attendence thetruthbigd that had all of the red hats?

I think I read that for St Pete and one of the less well attended ovals (don't remember which), nearly a 4th of the grandstand seats where Marlboro freebies. Not that big of a percentage at other tracks, but still 5,000 seats or so. No way this does not effect attendance in a negative way.

Great question. When I was at Mid-Ohio, the line to the Marlboro trailer with the free tickets and goodie bags was as long as the line for general admission.
25% will be a typical race attendance loss. As Some of these races, you've looking at a third.

Could it be there were just less people working the Marlboro booth, making the line and wait longer by default? Or would that go too much against the whole "sky is falling" scenario?
As for a 1/3 estimate that is way, way off for the IRL, unless you are talking Homestead where 1/3 of the tickets numbers around 2500...

Nice of you to mock me Earl, however, it now seems Iwas more than partially correct. If you read the latest from Penske their funding from Marlboro has been greatly reduced and they are now considering new paint schemes for 2010. You might want to think twice before trying to belittle someone.

The Marlboro contribution at Fontana was rather notable, at the first race there. They filled the ends of the grandstands, which helped the TV shots. I'd guess 25% was not too far off.

I think Marlboro will honor their contract. Will they renew or at a reduced level we shall see. But tobacco sponsorship and auto racing have been going down for awhile. I remember having 3 cars was not possible per the contract.LOL.Roger will be fine and he proved that with Will Power and Verizon.BTW, I dont think twice, once is enough.

Very good Earl. Avoidance of the issue. What a surprise. When it was announced that Marlboro was cutting their tickets give-a-ways I asked if this this indicated they might also be reducing or eliminating their sponsorship of Penske. To which you laughingly belittled me for the mere idea of the possibility. Well guess, what, they reduced their sponsorship as reported by Team Penske. When I brought that to your attention your reply is "I think they will honor their contract" You simply sidestep the issue that the level of sponsorship has been reduced. My intuition that they may also reduce their sponsorship was correct. So man up Earl, and admit my comments were not so off the mark and your 3rd grade attempts at mockery were just that, third grade attempts. You were wrong.
I do agree with one thing you said, that... "I don't think twice" You might want to give it a try. Because I'm not convinced you think once, much less twice.
edit-LOL!
