ALMS Flying Lizard Team has to cheat to hold off Corvette

The ALMS Laguna Seca race was amazing it came down to the last lap battle for both the P1/P2 leaders going for it and the GT2 class battle between the Flying (Cheating) Lizard Team & the #3 Corvette C6.R. Clearly the corvette was the faster car and should be awarded the win.

It's one thing to take a line away so the faster car can't overtake but to run someone into the wall on the last straight is bad sportsmanship. The corvette had many chances earlier to tap the rear of the Porsche to take him out but didn't because that's not the way champions win. They should take the points away from the #45 car for this race.

Sorry guys, I saw the delayed race broadcast as well. All I saw was racing and two of the most driven, hard nosed drivers in this era. Magnusson has a reputation as a ferocious driver and he was not to be denied. Bergmeister has been through this before and he was not going to let it happen again. It was breathtaking and just another measure of how awesome ALMS has become. Enjoy and it and wait for the rematch at Sebring. ALMS is superb throughout the field and I feel it offers the some of the best road racing in the US. nice coverage SPEED even if it was delayed.

IF the Corvette didn't blast the back bumper of the 45 from about 50 feet out on the last turn, I'd agree. But he did so I don't.

Jan said after the race that he did not think he had a chance to attack going into the last corner but Jorg parked it in the corner. This was probably a bad attempt to block. I was surprised to see Jan catch up, so his explanation seems reasonable. Park in the corner blocking and you should expect to get hit. What Jorg did is not acceptable in any racing forum. He sould be disqualified from the races and suspended going into next season. This is not the kind of driving we want to see.

When I watched the end again on tape, it looked like the last move was by the Corvette, as either a block or a "I can hit you too" type of lane change.

Really? Then you weren't watching the same race. Get serious.

I'm new to the forums and couldn't wait to get to the office today to try to find the email or contact info for ALMS and/or IMSA to let them know how angry I am regarding this incident. However, I couldn't find any accurate contact info. Anybody know who to contact?
I cannot believe that Bergmeister wasn't at least penalized 30-60 seconds for his actions on the track....THIS IS UNBELIEVABLE!!!!! Especially after the Corvette had to give the spot back after he made an "unauthorized pass", or whatever it was called, several laps earlier.
This race ran on Saturday and they should have made a decision that day......or at least yesterday (Sunday). As of this morning, not a peep from ALMS.
As a poster said above, this is indeed a black mark on this series. I went to 3 events this year (Sebring, St. Pete & CT) and if this is the type of race officiating we will see, then I guess I'll keep my money next year.
Who do we contact?

Wow. We get one of the best ALMS races of the year and everyone's crying because the all-American Corvette got taken out.

It was a great race. I don't agree with the way the Flying Lizard car raced, but it's IMSA's call, and not mine. They made their call, and that's that. I enjoyed the race regardless.

It’s a good day for a motor car race.

Just to clarify my position. I don't care if Corvette or Porsche or Audi or Peugeot or Ferrari or whoever wins. I just love racing of all sorts. What Bergmeister did was INTENTIONAL.....he turned Jan headfirst into the wall.....that was what I object to.
Sorry to use a cliche, but a little "rubbin" on the last couple laps is fine. But, turning someone headfirst into the wall is not.

I watched the incident five times before I made that conclusion. How many times did you watch before condemning the Porsche for their part?

I find the irony between your username and post hilarious. LOL
