Hi anybody knows how to adjust the cam shaft on 2002 Ford focus Zetec engine 2.0. I replace the timing but i didn't know that i need a tool to hold the camshaft in place so the camshaft spun on me. I'm going to try to get the tool tomorrow, but does anybody knows where the lobes need to be? or picture showing. I have the book and doesn't really help. I have the engine on TDC already I just need the camshaft to line up perfectly. Does the tool will really help me?? pls help..thanks.

The only thing I can tell you in this particular case would apply to any engine: with #1 piston at TDC on the compression stroke all the valves on that cylinder should be shut. Here are 2 tips for future work: Buy a paint pencil and prick punch at any parts store. Use one or the other to index the position of components when you disassemble something. Secondly, use a digital camera. Take lots of pictures as you take things apart. You'll be amazed at how helpful those pictures can be when you start putting it together again. I've been working on Diesels and heavy equipment for over 40 yrs and those are 2 of the handiest techniques I've ever come across. I use them quite often.
BTW, if you Google your particular engine you will probably find a board that is devoted to that engine. The info you need might be there.

thanks again. I have the book on Haynes, it really didn't help me they left a lot of steps behind... but i found more better step by step at alldata.. and yes i did use paint markers and but I never taught the camshaft itself and the camshaft pulley would have key or splines on them. and I made a tool so the camshaft would line up, I think making your own tool is fun... it's a 5mm thick and the L and W doesn't really matter as long it fits. i got everything back last night just waiting for my steering pump from autozone, they gave me another leaking pump! then I have to drive it for about 10mi because the engine has to relearn. Thanks for the advise CAT-MAN-DO
