A Sensible Revision To The Ridiculous Chase

NASCAR...if you are going to continue with "The Chase", why not consider this:

Each week the "Chasers" will be locked into the top 12 starting positions. During qualfying, they would be the last 12 cars to qualify in order of a draw. Fastest of the 12 would, obviously, win the pole. If, for some reason, they have to make a mechanical change such as an engine or even wreck during qualifying the worst they would start is 12th.

It is ridiculous that some of the "filler" teams are higher in the starting grid than the "chasers". Two different agendas. Blaney and Nemechek and others who run for as little as 10 laps should not be a factor in the chase.

^ So why not kick out the rest of cars, and limit the the last ten races to only 12 cars? rolleyes

Well thats how they do it in all the other sports. It would be a very boring race though with only 12 cars on the track

The "agenda" should be to win every week, for every team. Any other agenda is ridiculous, which is why I detest NASCAR's lame point system. It rewards teams which can run well, but not quite win. Bologna!

The championship should go to the driver with the most wins in the season, period. You can have points from second on down for other awards, but I have always felt this way.

So if someone runs a partial schedule and wins more races than anyone else then they should be champion? That's very logical. Makes plenty of sense. Great idea. tongue laugh

Not a terrible idea, but starting position is not as important as finishing position, so I would go one further: award points to the chase drivers according to where they finish among the chase drivers only, and points to the rest of the field according to their finish order at large; in other words, if Gordon is 1st, and Martin 5th, and 3 non-chasers 2nd, 3rd, 4th, award first place points to Gordon, 2nd place points to Martin, and so on for the chase drivers, making how the non-chasers start and finish a non-issue for the chasers.

Maybe give 100 'chase' points for 1st, 90 for second, and so on..........

It worked for David Pearson in 1966

I have noticed a lot of unhappy fans in this forum. You guys should read this new book about NASCAR. Go to http://www.racepublicaion.com to check it out. Not going to be too popular with the France family.

You might want to check into how many of Pearson's competitors also ran partial schedules in a season that had something like 60 plus races, as I recall.

Finally some one with some clarity. No other sport which holds a "playoff", allows for non winning teams in the playoffs, so why does Nascar, asinine, if you ask me.

Do you really think it would be a boring race if only 12 were entered, or maybe top 15-20. Most of the back row cars aren't even going 20 laps or so laps so why even have them in there in the first place. Nascar already has too many cars on track as it is. Nearly half are behind the 8-ball to start off anyhow, why not eliminate them. They just get in the way. no more than 30cars per race, until the chase, then narrow it down further.
