Maybe no US drivers for USF1?

Peter Windsor - "So, it´s unlikely we will be able to take one (an American driver) in our first year, but we are still hoping to do that. But certainly year two I am pretty confident there will be up and running enough to be able to get an American in the car."

I think you misread what he said. Here's the full paragraph.

That´s why Nascar works so well. They have great American drivers, and they are all big stars. That´s what IndyCar lacks. American Star drivers. Because of that we are coming into Formula One. And we are having to try to make up for sort of fifteen years lack of support for American drivers. So, it´s unlikely we will be able to take one in our first year, but we are still hoping to do that. But certainly year two I am pretty confident there will be up and running enough to be able to get an American in the car.

You could read it as no Americans from NASCAR background.

Plus Robin Miller has admitted he knows who the American driver is but has vowed to US F1 and SPEED that he well not announce it until US F1 is ready.

i have to say that is a stretch reading it that way, hitokiri.

if you removed robin miller from the context you would say it was totally clear that there would be no us driver. and miller, while sometimes right...is sometimes wrong as well.

or, conversely, yes, there is an american signed, but as test and reserve (which means almost nothing in these days of no testing).

I am a little surprised after hearing (reading in a chat) that Robin Miller knows who it is but is sworn to secrecy (sort of as he has revealed it is not Andretti or Rahal) until a news conference on or by Speed but I don't see how to interpret the statement by Windsor except at least meaning they have not yet picked an actual American F1 driver. Test or GP2 seems more likely now or even just a tryout. Windsor has and does not strike me as a guy who will mislead. He just doesn't say what he doesn't want to say. I guess I am now of the school of thought that they have not picked a US driver. At least not anybody to go directly into F1. I am absolutely sure that no untested (inexperienced at that level) driver will get the job without a test. And since they do not have a car . . . I guess we will see.

With Reed Sorenson now out of his Petty contract, don't be surprised if he is linked with the USF1 drive... I'm sure the team would love to have the NASCAR connection.

This is somewhat of a random comment mostly for your first post.

The talented potential F1 ace who drives for Petty is named Allmendinger, not Sorenson

Reed Sorenson is among the last of the guys I'd take if I were USF1. That would be a truly odd pick.

Allmendinger is too much of a head case for F1, IMO. I've said all along that Wurz would be my first choice if he will do it. USGPE needs veteran drivers who can help them work out the car. After that a veteran and a youngster might not be as bad, but the first year they have to go with experience.

Allmendinger will have a full ride with Petty next year in the #43 so I don't see him walking away from NASCAR for USF1. There are no American drivers that could drive for Peter other than the ones in the lower series like GP2 that have some training in those cars and with no testing in F1 it makes it harder. Scott Speed is the only possible U.S. driver available if not tied to a contract with Red Bull.

I remember when Peter and Ken had that news conference on
Speed in regards about drivers. When they mention, Danica,
Graham, Scott, Kyle and the next generation before Mario
placed Marco's, name, they actually avoided JR's name.

Then JR went on huge performance for the Indy lights title.
A 1st for a US driver since AJ Foyt IV.
