Drag racing doesn't translate well to TV?
Are you guys high?
If NASCAR, IRL and NHRA were on at the same time,
I'd be watching drag racing.
It's technically more informative,
you get to see the cars ripped apart in the pits,
it's more sensational...

Drag racing doesn't translate well to TV...what a load of crap, sounds like something coming from the whine and cheese crowd.

Face it,theres nothing like the smell of nitro methane first thing in the morning to get your heart pumping!

Drag racing on TV doesn't come close to the experience of being at the track. Although, a large HD TV, high-resolution audio system and a powerful subwoofer helps a great deal.

Nothing like nitro fumes to clear your sinuses!

Hockey just suffers from being unpopular in the US. It translates very well to TV

Hockey is too fast. You can't see the puck, and that's IF the cameraman knows where it's at. In football, they can follow the ball (most of the time). In baseball, everybody knows where it is (except the one broad in the stands who gets skulled by a foul ball). Basketball, easy to follow. The ball is big and doesn't get propelled at 100 MPH.

You know what NHRA should do, is listen to all of the complaints about NASCAR. Then sell the fact that only the top 16 make it in the field, there's no Lucky Dog, no competition cautions, no green-white-checkers. And NO DIGGER!!!

Two go down, one comes back. Racing in it's purest form.

As for the live tv problem, I remember in the mid 90's espn had a pay-per-view type of deal where it was live. But I think it cost too much for viewers to want to buy it and it didnt last long.

The problem with the pay-per-views was the real time delays for oil downs and rain. They had a set amount of time to use the satellite and when it was up the show ended whether the racing was done or not.

Since those days, they implemented the 75 minute rule between rounds and costly penalties for oil-downs. The delay problem was significantly improved but not totally eliminated. Not much they can do about the weather other than to race in the rain like they do in F1 racing. I'd pay to watch drag cars trying to get down a wet track.
