IMO it's like hockey.
A very exciting sport in person, but doesn't translate well to TV. You have to see it up close in person to "get it".

Drag racing doesn't lend itself to live TV, 1 oil down can throw off the schedule.

I agree, it is like Hockey, and it does not translate well to TV. HDTV and dolby digital 5.1 surround sound have helped and. I have been a fan for over 35 years and to really experience it you have to go to a NHRA national event. I have not been to one since the 1000 foot rule in the nitro classes but I think out of all the motor sports it is the best bang for the buck and unlike other motorsports you have a full pit pass and can meet the drivers and see the cars up close. I would love to see ABC/Disney which ownes ESPN2 have the first and last rounds of the US Nationals live Labor Day weekend on ABC then maybe switch it over to ESPN or ESPN2. But I am in advertising/marketing and that would never happen because of College Football.

I like the ESPN2 airings of NHRA. There is exciting action all the time. Given that it is not live lets them produce a great show. Ther race takes all day live and there are a lot of down times when there are blow-ups for cleaning up the oil. So tape delay is the way to go.
It's all about the drivers, the cars and the teams. No other stupid stuff

I agree, ESPN2 does a great job in producing the race show. I have seen some of the old Dimond P Productions of old races and it is like night and except the annouce teams were better. I miss Dave McCllend and Steve Evans.

First thing is that Drag Racing IS on national TV, and Thank God for that, facts are that it just does not have the following of NASCAR, sad but true.
It is hard to capture the true essence of the event on TV, the SOUND, there is NOTHING like the sound of a nitromethane powered engine, you not only hear it you FEEL it, the smell,The Nitro, you get a face full, it BURNS like hell, and you go back for MORE!
Drag racing truly excites ALL your senses more so than any other form of motor racing.
Also you have four different types of vehicles all in the same event,
T/F, F/C, Pro Stock cars and Motorcycles, something for everyone, and ALL exciting. Pro Stock Cars could be the closest form of racing in motorsports.
I love Drag Racing, always did, and always will.
It's true that it's hard to capture all the excitement on TV, but once you go to a national event, most will be hooked!
And on top of all that you have the BEST interview in Motorsports, John Force! I mean really, who would you rather see interviewed, John Force or
Jimmie Johnson et al..?
AND Drag Racing has the largest group of COMPETITIVE of WOMEN racers in all of motorsports.
Drag Racing has a lot going for it. go see a race in person and you and your wife and kids will become a loyal TV viewers regardless of it's TV shortcomings..
