I think the question here is one of whether the fans really want change to avoid the "big one" or not. I would like to see NASCAR run the Rolex course (or a variation thereof) to combine both oval and road course racing in one event. This would clearly break up the big packs, provide for a new type of race, and perhaps avoid another death from a major crash. I know that there would need to be significant changes to the road course portion in order to allow for more passing and to allow the fans to see that part of the course. Perhaps Daytona is not the right venue for this type of experiment but it could be very interesting if you removed the restrictor plates and made the cars turn left and right on the flats and on the high banks.

I have been thinking the same thing for years.
Leave the Feb. race (The 500) as is and take the July race and run the Rolex or Motorcycle course.
NASCAR is about due for some creativity and I think this would be a GREAT idea to try.
It will NEVER happen for a multitude of reasons.
But we can hope right?

Nascar had nothing to do with the wreck at the end of this race. What caused this wreck was one DRIVER. Kyle drove way over his head on this one, not NASCAR! Kyle would have one this race if he hadn't tried the block move!
Then Talladega was all Carl Edwards? And the wreck at the end of the 2001 Daytona 500 was... oops can't go there.

Here is the solution to all the problems. No More Racing.

Just Kidding, but everything in life is dangerous and you have to except that. Other wise you should go sit in a bubble wrap room.

The scariest thing I have ever seen was when I saw an elderly woman on a cell phone driving a Dodge Ram 4x4, from my rear view when I was stopped in traffic. It took her forever to slow down and come to a stop. And I used to race, even did Figure 8 a few times, but that old lady scared the Bejesus outta me.

"Except", or "accept"?
I ask because accept or except change the meaning entirely.

I don't think anyone has to accept anything, but that's me being an individualist.

This is the second time this year that a huge wreck sparked off when two guys were going for the win. In both situations disasters were nearly avoided and all the drivers in the wrecks should consider themselves very fortunate not to have been injured. Now does NASCAR need to do something to make plate racing safer for the drivers and the fans before Talladega in November?

How about not racing at all? Racing is dangerous.
