Brawn's technical boss has left the team, the German news agency DPA reported on Thursday.
45-year-old German Jorg Zander, having moved from Williams to BMW in 2006, and subsequently to Brawn's predecessor Honda in 2007, departed the Brackley outfit last week, a spokeswoman confirmed.
A reason was not given, and a successor was not named.
Given Brawn's current success on track I would have to believe he was offered a paycheck he couldn't refuse from another team, especially when leaving mid-season. With the current reg's now stabilized going forward, he will be a great asset to turn around whichever team stole him away. He knows what worked and what didn't in all the testing and development Honda did while everybody was racing last year.
So my guess is... McLaren

I'd actually be more surprised if he another team has picked him up already. Don't these guys usually go on "gardening" leave until the season's over. It doesn't seem like Brawn to just let his chief designer go without first making sure he can't help a new team with the desing of next season's car.

Question is during the change of hand from Honda to Brawn, if all the contracts in place carried over. Even then, given the way these guys switch between teams regularly, I doubt they would sign non-compete clauses.

McLaren is a good guess, they seem lost and willing to pay any price to get things right.

I think McLaren has hired Zanda, and probably will start work soon on the 2010 chassis. They probably have received permission to do so by BrawnGP, which will help them get a confirmed engine deal from Mercedes for 2010. The question will be who can Brawn recruit to fill the ranks, perhaps Luca Baldisseri, since Brawn worked with him while he was at Ferrari.

People do tend to forget that Brawn GP's engine arrangement is good for one year only and required permission from McLaren because they have an exclusive engine contract with Mercedes. Also, Force India required a waiver of the (maximum of) two team limitation.
