most of those copyright protected signals blocks are per HD signals, and at times they get crossed with the SD signals. But the cable/sat companies won't do anything about it. Not only do they want you to upgrade to the HD, and get the dvr, but doing that isn't always going to let you view. See, I inquired with my local cable company, and they said like all of you did, its not their problem, and wouldn't even bother to look at it. when I complained they said too bad and hung up, called back and another rep said that its not something they could even work on if they could do anything about it. that even if you upgraded the service, it may not even fix it, because of the feed from the channel. Since not all programming is sent in HD, they send out the HD signal for its HD programming, but it sometimes is read by the converter as HD even when it's not, and will block the picture, but you can get sound. I really don't see much difference in HD anyhow.

why, nascar programming on speed is terrible. They have the worst announcers, and talk about the most ridiculous things. I do not want to know about JR's hat size, and kasey kahne's stupid allstate commerical. Stick to watching the race, your better off.

How many members of this board are paying a cable or satellite bill every month? Granted there are a lot of kids here who watch SPEED TV on their parents' dime, but I would estimate 80% of this message board are paying customers. Now, I'm not suggesting we all cancel our TV service, that's totallly unrealistic... or that we boycott SPEED TV sponsors, which is also a pipe dream. But it's interesting to think about how a concentrated effort by SPEED TV "fans" (using the term loosely) would affect the situation.

Obviously, b!tching about it here won't solve jack... which is painfully evident when they keep crancking out shows like Tow Truck Toughguys or whatever the hell it's called. LMAO

Economic boycott is the only option. I guess it boils down to what we're willing to give up to get what we want.

To everyone who is reading this thread. I believe there is a way to record the Speed Channel on digital devices such as DVD (or DVR to DVD) and I intend to share that information with you.

It is currently impossible for me to record the Speed Channel with a DVD recorder. I first encountered this problem in late July while trying to record Formula One qualifying. Since then I have been unable to record anything on the Speed Channel with my Magnavox ZV450MW8 DVD recorder. I have no problems recording any of the other channels on either basic and extended cable. I do not subscribe to HD or digital TV. I operate my equipment in analog mode. I do not have a DVR or converter box.

I am able to record the Speed Channel on VHS tape but I cannot dub those tapes onto DVD as they are infected with the same digital broadcast protection flags that prevent me from recording directly to DVD.

On 8/17/09 I purchased a device I hope will remove digital broadcast protection flags from my Charter Cable signal and enable me to record the Speed Channel directly to DVD. The device I bought is called a Grex and I expect to receive it by USPS in about 10 days to three weeks from the shipping date, 8/24/09.

If the Grex enables me to successfully record the Speed Channel directly to DVD I will post here again and share my experiences with you.

Set my non-HD DTV DVR to record 'Always Ferrari' TWICE. It didn't get it once. Anyone know if this particular program was flagged? It recorded all of my F1 stuff just fine. Odd.

It will be difficult to answer your question without knowing which service you subscribe to. Have you tried to record any other programs on Speed TV today and if so were you successful?

The copyright flags should not exist. After all, we spend good money to watch infomercials, reality programs and Jimmy Spenser balancing a rug on his head on SPEED, we ought to be able to time shift Formula 1 races without all this aggravation. It's crappy customer service, something Fox/SPEED seems to care little about.

I got cable a dozen years ago to watch Speedvision, so you can imagine how I feel. I canceled cable in February after I received notice of a rate increase and realized I had gone 3 months and spent $180.00 in cable fees without watching anything on SPEED.

Canceling your service is the only solution. When you cancel cable/satellite make sure your provider knows why.

To Freedom Fighter and everyone else who is interested, YES, the GREX device (by Dimax) DOES work. I record most F1 broadcasts for my own private enjoyment. Recently (about the time the United States mandated digital broadcasts over analog) it became impossible to record from the Speed Channel. With the GREX, I can now do so.

In my opinion the GREX is worth its cost (about $100.00). It takes about two weeks to receive delivery of the GREX (it comes from Israel). Also, while set up is not overly complicated, I can confirm that the Dimax technical support staff is very good and attentive.
