I revised this post and hit the wrong button, and it seems you can't delete so my next post is my intended post.

I am recording the replay of the F1 race right now on my DVR and it's working perfectly.

The copy-protection issue depends on many things. It appears to be related to SPEED HD, not SPEED non-HD, whether your DVR is integrated with your cable/satellite company (as some do have the copy-protect problem) or an external aftermarket unit, an external DVD recorder or VHS recorder, what the vintage of the external recorders are (whether they are new enough to have content protection activation) and other issues.

This is not a Macrovision problem, but a Broadcast Flag or CGMS signal issue. If you can or can't record, give the details of your unique situation, whether you are recording SPEED or SPEED HD, using DVR and the type and source of your DVR (i.e. remote cable/satellite DVR, integrated with your cable/satellite box or a stand-alone), using a DVD recorder or VHS recorder (I'd say SuperBeta too as I have the capability and the tapes), or whatever your situation is.

It's apparent that just posting here isn't going to resolve this issue nor have it explained, so I emailed the Director of Communications (for press relations) for Fox Cable and asked for an official statement on the copy-protection situation as I'm probably going to write an article about this issue and submit it to Autoweek, and I'd like Fox/SPEED to comment.

Since I got my Toshiba HDD/DVD recorder 3 years ago, I would record most of the road racing and motocycle road racing events on SPEED. Since the harddrive would fill up I would burn to DVD and archive the discs to watch at my leisure. Saving all this racing for when the theatre room with the big screen is done. Now when I record to the harddrive I get the NO COPY symbol so now I can't archive to DVD anymore. This really bites!!!!! Now I have to see about upgrading my PC with a Tuner card and larger harddrives to see if I can archive this way and not use DVD's anymore. If not, I have no use for SPEED anymore as I can't watch most of the racing when it's scheduled. I'm sure there are a few out there with the same sentiments.

I'm using a JVC DVD recorder that I bought last year. I'm recording from SPEED non-HD. I have Comcast Cable and I have not tried it yet from SPEED HD. I have recorded just about every practice, qualifying, and the race since about 2004.

Sounds like there may be a few different topics getting mixed up in this thread.
Hopefully no one is paying a cable or satellite company a monthly rental fee for a DVR (read NOT DVD) and a monthly fee for channels that can't be recorded on that DVR. That would result in lost revenue for the Cable/Satellite companies and downstream to the broadcasters, because people would stop renting DVR cable boxes and stop paying for channels that won't record on a DVR.
I don't have that problem with COX HD-DVR, or any channel provided by COX (it doesn't make much sense anyway).
If a signal is getting to your TV and you can see/hear it, it can be recorded on a DVD or Video CD or VHS tape. Easily.

Curse you Time Warner!! I have an LG RH387-M DVD recorder with 160GB HD and I have just sencountered this problem this weekend ( Jul,10,2009 ) in Vancouver BC.

Up until now I have been able to record EVERYTHING on Speed Channel ( Standard Definition not HD feed ). But starting yesterday, I got the dreaded " Record Blocking Signal Detected ".

Now the timing is very interesting. You guys in the USA say this problem started around Jun,19th,2009....but in Vancouver Canada, we didn't encounter this problem until July,10,2009. That must mean that our local cable supplier, Shaw, must have been filtering out the Record Blocking Signal.

We get the same feed as the USA...so we all are getting hosed here guys. Time to start calling Speed TV, Time Warner and your Local Cable subscriber and start b**ching about this. It is a load of cr**pola.

Note: This does not affect all DVD recorders. Mostly the newer models with Hard Drive recording and High Definition capabilities. In Shaw's case, I suspect that they can filter out the Record Block Signal for their own Shaw Brand PVR's...but choose not to do so for non-Shaw brand equipment.

As soon as the Tier 2 Techs are back at work tomorrow at Shaw, I will attempt to get some answers. Tier 1 clerks just don't have the knowledge.

I, too have no use for Speedtv anymore since I cannot record onto DVD. Some of us are working Americans and actually are at work during broadcast of practice, Inside GP, Debrief, Qualy, race, and GP2.
I have sent my sentiments to Toyota, Sony, Bridgestone, Pennzoil, etc. as I also no longer will be seeing their advertisements.

While attempting to set up a friend's DVD recorder for her, I noticed this issue on SPEED. She has Comcast.

Just another example of SPEED's lousy, lousy, lousy customer service. Do they really expect people to get up at 7 in the morning and skip church to watch the F-1 races?

The advertisers ought not be happy.

No problem with Comcast.
