I wonder how many former Champ Car teams still have the Cosworth engine. We all know that Formula 1 will have Cosworth on the grid. I wish the IRL would let some of the teams run the older engine. However, that will be when the IRL will open the rules if that happens.

The IRL is already looking at multiple engines for the next generation of cars. If Cosworth can find someone to badge the engine they could probably race in the next generation of IndyCar.

'Can almost guarantee we won't be seeing "old" Cossies...although which version you speak of I know not. There were numerous (dvelopment and rules changes...)

Heard Gerry Forsythe still has one in his car driving back and forth from home to his empty shop
On a seriuos note though, curious if anyone remembers this though but when CART in 02 was going to switch to normally aspirated engines, didn't Cosworth have a power plant already to go for the IRL specifications, but it was badged a Chevy power plant for GM? I believe that happenned after Chris Pook announced they were staying with the Turbo package after Honda/Toyota announced they were leaving.
Anyone recall this?

It's my understanding that Cossie wanted to supply engines to the IRL but TH/IMS refused to allow it as they were not "rebadged" by any name manufacturer. Thus yes Cossie did work on a reasonably current NA V8 design.

In recent years we've been fed this diet about possible interest from Porsche, Audi, VW, Maserati etc etc coming to Indycar with a 4 cylinder turbo spec. Of course it was ALL wind.

Cosworth did build the Chevy engine for one season. I loved the irony no pun intended
