It seems to me this situation is very similar to the situation MTV found itself in many years ago. Remember when MTV started, they showed nothing but music videos. Then over time...less and less music videos. Finally MTV2 was born, probably born from the same sort of complaints that Speed is now receiving.
Then when MTV2 went away, another channel devoted to music videos was started (Don't remember the name...I've outgrown it), but you get my point.
In the meantime, we as race fans do suffer somewhat.
A Plea to SPEED from a Racing fan

Speed tv is a car channel now not what it started as a racing haven. Why the hell did they put that stupid pimp my ride back on the air. that was the last straw for me, there is so much live & classic racing out there to fill in time. the reality shows wouldnt be as bad if the air it once a week not everday all the time. Please stream the racing coverage online if you dont want to air it on tv.

Sorry guys - I still find shows to watch on Speed but I admit that Formula Racing was Sunday morning religion back in the early days.
I found some great clips from a documentary about racing history. It is called Trio at the Top and was produced in 2001 by New Zealand TV. The clips are at http://www.nzonscreen.com/title/trio-at-the-top-2001
I would love to see this documentary on SpeedTV. It is about Bruce McLaren, Denny Hulme and Chris Amon and is a great look at F1, CanAm and Indy Racing back in the 60's.

It would be a waste of time to think Speed would show anything but NA$CAR and the reality silliness, no matter how much more important to racing in the overall sense Bruce McLaren, Denny Hulme and Chris Amon have been.
For a time they showed vintage racing in this country, but no more. It takes an interest in the history of the sport to vintage material worth the trouble and that's something we just don't see much of anymore.
And that's a shame.

Thanks so much for the link. I started following racing in the early 1960's and that good-natured & talented gentleman Bruce McLaren quickly came into sight. Two of the saddest days I ever experienced was hearing of the deaths of Jim Clark and Bruce McLaren. By all accounts a great if slightly under appreciated figure in racing.
