does anyone know what kind of crankshaft bearings cup engines use? i thought i thought i read somewhere that they used bmw bearings due to they are so thin

The odds of BMW bearings fitting a NASCAR engine are probably slim to none, to the point of being ridiculous. Most bearings that I work with are steel backed with overlays of copper and tin, as well as various other metals. Babbit used to be common, but I don't think it is used much anymore. With better lubricants and harder cranks bearings have gotten harder for longer life. There are some interesting variations though. Some Cat engines use solid aluminum bearings. Very expensive (even by Cat's standards), but very long lasting. In the old Wisconsin air cooled engines the connecting rod itself was the bearing. Nothing to replace. If you couldn't rebore the rod you threw it away.

^Extremely doubtful. There are different styles of crankshaft bearings. Maybe some team or manufacturer was using a BMW style, but using the same actual bearing would seem highly unlikely.

they use "honda" rod journals and they do use a BMW or HONDA type of bearing to fit the "HONDA" journals they are extreamly thin in length and wall thickness. the specs for the "honda" journals are 1.888 the same size as a honda crank so that is why they call it a "HONDA" journal.

so ... crankshaft bearings and/or crankshaft journals are thin in length and wall thickness. I had no idea.

yes they are compared to passenger car bearings and they are also narrowed.

I'm well aware of that. None of the reciprocating parts in a Cup race engine bear much resemblance to passenger car parts. Did you know that most of them are outsourced to suppliers in Europe and Japan? Chevrolet R07 blocks are cast in England.
All the parts are exotic ... they're
race engines.

The smart people are the ones who design and develop these engines - incorporating concepts such as the ones you referred to.
